It's good to have an outlet like that. I don't envy all the scanning you've got ahead of you, but once it's all done I'd like to see what you got.

Re: Southern Utah

Welcome back Andy! The pics are looking good, I'm excited to see what I got, but am a little more than daunted by the huge amount of processing/printing/scanning etc. that lies between my and my images.

Re: Wordle

Hey Andy - - thanks for the link to your blog. Great and amazing stuff you are doing. Now, if we could only see more sun to help you out with the exposures - - my favorite lumen is the 1st photo on your "some new lumens" post. WOW. That'll happen to you. I finally found a hand shear so I can start cutting plates down to size and try some more photogravures. Took me nearly 6 months just to find the shears. Speed-bumps in a project can sometimes turn into mountains...at least that's true for me.

I'm gonna make some frames and pour some carbon tissue this winter I swear!!!!!

Re: Lumen Breakthrough

Those are really beautiful, Andy. I *may* have some old 8x10 film, if I can find it. Do you want it? I might have thrown it away when I moved from NY to OR but if not it's yours. I would add a section about how the process enhances your message as an artist. What is your message, how is it conveyed specifically through the Lumen Print, etc...

Flesh out another paragraph and explain how your voice is heard through the various unique characteristics of Lumen printing.

Re: Lumen Prints Artist Statement Draft

Yeah, that was the general consensus of the class. They all liked the photos of these found sculptures and Chris asked why I don't go out and make my own. So right now, like I said it's just an idea, not set in stone.
There's one grad student here that has been in the program off and on for about seven years or so (I forgot exactly how long), and he still has no idea what he's going to do. I don't want to be that guy. For practical reasons as well as artistic(not really sure what else to call the other reasons).

Re: An Explanation

Andy, Andy, Andy . . . .

". . .and perhaps what I may pursue for my thesis."

Isn't it like your first week of graduate school? Don't even try to figure out what you are going to do for your thesis. Right now you need to stay open and flexible. Try out as many styles as you can. You should be looking across the whole spectrum of imagemaking. You should pick things that you have never done and try them just for the hell of it. I worry if you start to limit yourself into one style or project this early you may totally miss out on may oppurtunities that may present themselves. If you would have asked me my first year what I would have done for a final project it would have been carbon printing. My second year, small scale b&w traditional prints . . . so, for me to end up with a project like what I did took a lot of evolution. I resisted it early on thinking I had to stay focused and narrow in my scope. I'm glad I didn't.

Re: Leaf Wrap Time Lapses

Sweet!
